SME Digital has opened applications for independent directors to serve on its board for the first time.

In an announcement, the company said applications are now open for three independent director positions, inviting qualified and experienced individuals to apply.

Each independent director will be appointed for a term of two years from the date of appointment, in line with SME Digital’s articles of association and relevant governing rules.

Applicants are required to meet eligibility criteria set out under corporate governance regulations and other applicable laws relating to independent directors. These include holding at least a first degree from a recognised university in a relevant field, along with a minimum of five years of work experience in a relevant Government or private sector institution.

The company stated that candidates must also demonstrate strong knowledge of areas such as banking, financial services, investment business, and risk management, in addition to meeting independence and integrity requirements.

Applicants must be between 30 and 70 years of age. SME Digital currently has seven board members.

The application window opened on 26 March 2026 and will remain open until 5 April 2026.

SME Development Finance Corporation was rebranded as SME Digital in October last year. Following the rebranding, the company now operates as a subsidiary of the Bank of Maldives.
