New facilities at Haa Alifu Thuraakunu Health Centre have been officially inaugurated.

The newly developed facilities were inaugurated by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed during a special ceremony held on the island.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Nazim said the addition of new facilities will ease the workload of healthcare staff and improve the efficiency of service delivery. He noted that enhancing working conditions for medical personnel is key to strengthening the quality of care provided to the public.

He also emphasised that the Government is prioritising the development of essential services in smaller, less populated islands, with healthcare infrastructure being expanded alongside other key sectors.

The Thuraakunu Health Centre operates as an eight-hour facility and includes a six-bed ward as well as laboratory services. The newly opened facilities include office space, a public health room, a storeroom, and a meeting room.

The expansion of health facilities across the atolls remains a key priority of the Government, as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare services and reduce the need for residents to travel to Malé for treatment.
