Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held across Malé City and islands nationwide to mark the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service.
In Malé, the main ceremony was held on Saturday night outside the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building, the headquarters of the police service. The event was officiated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan.
Acting Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikury, along with senior executive and commissioned officers, police personnel and staff, attended the ceremony.
A condolence book was opened during the event in memory of Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Shukoor Abdulla, who served the nation for more than 43 years, and former Counsel General Uz Hassan Hameed, who dedicated over 35 years of service to the State. Minister Ihusaan, Acting Commissioner Farhad Fikury and senior police officers signed the condolence book.
Similar flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held at police stations across the country, with attendance from Government officials, institutional representatives, police personnel and members of the public.
Policing services in the Maldives were formally established in 1932. At the time, policing and military functions were carried out as a single service. The two were officially separated in 2004.
