The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that 35 hectares of land have been reclaimed from Giraavaru Falhu so far.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inspected the reclamation works at Giraavaru Falhu on Saturday. He was welcomed by MACL Managing Director and CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with Cabinet members, senior officials from the President's Office, and MACL representatives.
The Government plans to reclaim a total of 167.15 hectares of land from Giraavaru Falhu. Of this, 70 hectares had been reclaimed by the end of the previous administration. MACL is currently carrying out reclamation works on the remaining 97.15 hectares, of which 35 hectares have been completed to date. The works are being carried out using a 35,000 and a 22,000 cubic metre dredger.
Once completed, the reclaimed land is expected to play a key role in alleviating the long-standing housing crisis in the Greater Malé Area.
