The number of tourists visiting the Maldives from China has reached close to 100,000 so far this year, maintaining its position as the country’s leading source market.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism show that as of 28 March, a total of 93,172 tourists from China have visited the Maldives.

China is followed by Russia with 77,275 arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranks third with 59,354 visitors. Italy is fourth with 56,151 arrivals during the same period. The composition mirrors last year, when China, Russia and the United Kingdom ranked as the top three source markets.

A total of 145,728 tourists visited the Maldives so far this month, contributing to an overall figure of 627,496 arrivals recorded so far this year. During the same period in 2025, arrivals stood at 610,805, indicating a 2.7 per cent increase.

The Maldives recorded 2.3 million tourist arrivals last year, and the Government has set a target of attracting 2.5 million visitors by the end of this year.

Despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East affecting travel patterns, the Government has taken steps to minimise the impact on the tourism sector by exploring alternative travel routes and focusing on markets less affected by the situation.
