Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has said arrangements are being made to ensure the Maldives continues to receive essential food and medicines without disruption amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking during a press briefing held today by a special Cabinet committee formed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to assess the potential impacts of the conflict, minister Dr Khaleel said discussions have begun with several countries to secure smooth and uninterrupted supply of essential goods, including food, fuel and medicines, noting that a Government team has recently visited Colombo for talks.

He said the government has also initiated expenditure control measures to manage economic pressures, while efforts are underway to address challenges arising from the closure of Gulf airspace, including impacts on the tourism and construction sectors.

Minister Dr Khaleel added that the situation of Maldivians residing in the Middle East has been monitored on a daily basis since the start of the conflict, with embassies in the region actively engaged, and noted that individuals in areas at risk of attacks have been relocated to safer locations.

He reiterated that ensuring the welfare of citizens remains a priority, with continued efforts to mitigate the broader impact of the conflict on the Maldives.
