New MVR 10 banknotes will be introduced into circulation from April 1, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced.

The new notes, part of the “Ran Dhiha Faheh” series, were delivered to the central bank to address shortages and replace worn and damaged MVR 10 notes.

The MMA stated that the MVR 10 note, as a low-denomination bill, is widely used in everyday transactions and therefore wears out more quickly than higher-value notes. It also noted that such notes are less frequently recirculated through banks, contributing to supply constraints.

This marks the third issuance of the MVR 10 note under the current series. The first was released on 5 October 2015, followed by a second issue on 10 March 2018.

The newly issued notes carry the signature of current MMA Governor Ahmed Munawar and are dated 31 July 2025. The MMA also confirmed that the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol will be featured on both sides of the note, alongside the denomination.

The new notes will circulate alongside the existing MVR 10 notes already in use.
