President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the Maldives has seen growing investor interest in the renewable energy sector in recent weeks, as global developments increase the focus on alternative energy sources.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the President’s Office, the President said interest has increased over the past two to three weeks, noting that ongoing tensions in the Middle East have highlighted the importance of renewable energy, while adding that the Government intends to capitalise on this shift and advance its green energy targets.

He said that during periods of global uncertainty, international funding agencies tend to realign their priorities, stressing that greater focus is now being placed on projects that can be implemented using domestic capacity, while noting that several partner countries remain ready to provide support for key initiatives.

The President also reiterated that the Maldives remains financially resilient despite global economic volatility, confirming that the Government has the capacity to meet its sukuk repayment due on April 8.
