Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has expressed satisfaction with the progress of council office development projects underway in 55 islands under the contractor finance model.

In a post on X, the minister said recent site visits to inspect council secretariat buildings would support efforts to further strengthen internal administrative arrangements within local councils, while also providing an update on ongoing construction works.

He noted that projects are progressing in line with the planned timeline, adding that completion is expected by July this year, following inspections carried out in selected islands to assess the pace and quality of development.

The initiative forms part of a commitment by the Government to upgrade council infrastructure, with plans to construct more than 100 council buildings within five years, including 55 projects under contractor financing and an additional 50 with support from China.

The new council offices are being developed to modern standards and will be handed over as fully furnished facilities equipped with essential office infrastructure, aimed at improving service delivery at the local level.
