Several SME business owners in the Malé area have expressed support for the People’s National Congress (PNC) mayoral candidate, Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel, following a consultative meeting held on Wednesday.
The meeting, held at the Manhattan Fish Market, brought together members of the local business community to discuss key challenges affecting commercial activity in the capital. Participants highlighted persistent issues such as limited parking availability and inadequate storage space, noting that these constraints continue to hinder the smooth operation and growth of small businesses.
Addressing the concerns, Moosa Ali Jaleel acknowledged that the Government has begun taking steps to ease these pressures. However, he stressed that long-term, effective solutions would require strong coordination between the Administration and the Malé City Council. He stated that his campaign would focus on introducing practical measures to support small businesses while also creating more entry-level opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
The mayoral candidate also highlighted the importance of maintaining ongoing engagement with the business community, assuring that their input would play a central role in shaping council policies and decisions.
Business representatives present at the meeting shared similar views, emphasising that resolving Malé’s longstanding urban challenges depends on a council that can work closely and effectively with the central Government.
