The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced a temporary ban on heavy vehicle operations in Malé this Saturday to coincide with the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
The directive, aimed at enhancing road safety and alleviating traffic congestion on election day, prohibits vehicles categorised under A, B, C0, C2, D, E, and V from using public roads. These classifications primarily cover heavy machinery and vehicles designed for transporting large industrial loads.
The restriction will remain in effect from 06:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Throughout this window, unauthorised operation of these vehicles is strictly forbidden across all areas of the capital.
The Ministry confirmed that enforcement will be strictly handled under the Road Transport Act, with legal action pending for any violations.
Authorities have advised the public and commercial entities to plan logistics accordingly to ensure a smooth and safe environment for voters throughout the day.
