Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has stated that the Government aims to complete the northern-side development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu by the end of June.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the site today to monitor the progress of the road development project. Speaking to the media following the visit, Minister Dr Muththalib said that Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is currently undertaking the expansion of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
He noted that the targeted completion date for this section is June.
Upon completion, the project will also include a dedicated parking zone with capacity for 500 bicycles. In addition, a quay wall will be constructed to facilitate easier access for boats in the area.
MTCC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Saudi said the project is being carried out in a densely populated area with a high concentration of offices. However, he expressed confidence that, with public cooperation, the work will be completed on schedule.
Earlier phases of the project included the expansion of sections of the road to four lanes through land reclamation near the Local Market area and Izzuddin Jetty. These works were completed and opened in December 2025. Further developments along the southern corridor, including the stretch towards the Fish Market, were finalised and opened to the public in early 2026.
The redevelopment project, awarded to MTCC in April 2025, is part of broader efforts to enhance urban infrastructure in the capital. Officials have indicated that work on the remaining sections is progressing, with overall completion expected by June, alongside additional improvements to ease traffic flow and improve accessibility.
