Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and Member of Parliament for Maamigili Constitution, Qasim Ibrahim, has congratulated President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and his Administration on the successful repayment of the USD 500 million Sukuk, describing it as a major milestone for the Maldives’ economy.

In a post shared on X, Qasim praised the Government’s achievement, stating that settling the Sukuk in full without incurring additional debt reflects strong fiscal discipline and prudent economic management. He noted that meeting such a significant financial obligation, particularly amid a challenging global economic climate, demonstrates credibility, resilience, and responsible leadership.

He further emphasised that the repayment strengthens investor confidence and reinforces the Maldives’ standing within the international financial community, signalling the country’s commitment to honouring its obligations.

Expressing satisfaction with the development, Qasim also voiced confidence that the government would be able to settle the remaining loan obligations due this year. He stated that continued progress in this regard would help free the nation from the burdens of past debt, describing such efforts as essential to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and independence.

Qasim affirmed his continued support for the government, reiterating his firm commitment to President Dr Muizzu’s Administration as it works towards achieving these key economic milestones.
