The People’s National Congress (PNC) secured all seats in Shaviyani Narudhoo in Saturday’s Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, in a result that marks the first time a single party has won all positions on the island.

Results show that PNC candidates were elected to all three seats of the Narudhoo Council, with Mohamed Mustharusidhu elected as Council President after securing 66.9 per cent of the vote. The remaining council positions were won by Ahmed Mahir and Aminath Ziraana, who was elected to the women’s reserved seat.

The party also secured all seats in the WDC, with Aishath Nahuma elected as President, alongside Aishath Ikuleela and Fathimath Risfa as members.

The outcome represents a departure from previous elections in Narudhoo, where council seats had not been fully secured by a single party, with candidates from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) also contesting in this election.
