The People’s National Congress (PNC) has secured a decisive victory in Thaa Guraidhoo, reaffirming strong public support for the Government in Saturday’s Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.

In the elections, all 10 council seats in Guraidhoo were won by PNC candidates. The position of Council President was also secured by the party, with candidate Thaufeeq Ali receiving 669 votes, defeating independent candidate Mohamed Zaeem, who obtained 530 votes.

PNC candidates also won both reserved seats for women in the council. Aishath Fareena secured 807 votes, while Fathimath Fathoona received 672 votes. Independent candidate Aishath Muna garnered 555 votes.

Additionally, the two remaining council seats were won by PNC candidates. Abdulla Yashau received 697 votes, narrowly ahead of Shameem Ibrahim, who secured 688 votes. Meanwhile, MDP candidate Ahmed Ibrahim received 380 votes, while independent candidate Mohamed Afzal Moosa obtained 331 votes.

In the WDC elections, all five seats, including the President position, were also won by PNC candidates in Guraidhoo.

Guraidhoo has consistently demonstrated strong support for the ruling party. In the most recent presidential election, the island recorded one of the highest vote shares for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Similarly, in the subsequent parliamentary elections, voters in Guraidhoo elected the PNC candidate.
