PNC Maamigli elects
Candidates of the People’s National Congress (PNC) recorded a historic result in Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili in Saturday’s Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
Maamigili has traditionally been a stronghold of the Jumhooree Party (JP). The island also saw one of the highest numbers of candidates contesting in this election, with contenders from JP, PNC, MDP, as well as several independent candidates.
In the Local Council election, PNC secured two out of the five council seats. These seats were won by PNC candidates Ali Nihal and Azleena Ibrahim.
The PNC candidate contesting for the position of Council President narrowly missed victory, losing by a small margin of votes.
In the WDC election, PNC secured the chairperson position. The seat was won by PNC candidate Dhimsha Ahmed with a significant lead.
In addition, PNC also won two member positions in the WDC. These were secured by Mariyam Sama and Ummu Kulsoom.
Other PNC candidates who contested in the elections also received a considerable number of votes, reflecting growing support for the party in Maamigili.
