A section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, stretching from Masveringe Park to the Bank of Maldives (BML), has been closed to the public starting Wednesday to facilitate ongoing road development works.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced that the closure is necessary for sheet piling operations under Segment 2 to 4 of the project's first phase. Both the roadway and the adjacent coastal area within this stretch are scheduled to remain closed until 4 July.
In its statement, MTCC requested that owners of boats and launches currently moored in the affected area relocate their vessels. The company expressed regret for any public inconvenience and advised those seeking further information to contact its hotline at 1650.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, which commenced on 22 August of last year, is being executed in three distinct segments. The total scope includes the development of an 830-metre roadway and 737 metres of sheet piling. Additional works involve laying a road sub-base, asphalt paving, constructing pedestrian walkways, and installing a comprehensive stormwater drainage system.
While the first two segments have been completed and are already open for use, the Government aims to finalise all remaining work by the end of June.
