Chief Executive Officer of the Male’ City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, has said that work is underway to strengthen and expand the backup electricity capacity of hospitals in Malé amid rising energy demand following recent service improvements.
Speaking to MMTV, he said electricity consumption has increased significantly at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) following upgrades to its services and facilities.
He noted that during power interruptions, backup generators at both IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital are currently being used to maintain essential medical services. In such situations, priority systems are activated to ensure that critical care areas continue to operate without disruption.
However, he said the existing backup systems now need to be expanded and upgraded to meet growing demand and to ensure more reliable service continuity in the future.
The Government is also working to improve and strengthen the resilience of electricity supply systems supporting hospitals across the Greater Malé Area.
