Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stated that the Government is committed to working closely with employees to address their concerns and safeguard their rights.

He made the remarks during a rally held on Friday to mark International Labour Day. Speaking at the event, Minister Ihusaan said workers have consistently advocated for their rights, noting that the Government has been actively listening to concerns raised across various sectors.

The Minister said the full implementation of the Industrial Relations Act is expected this year, adding that the Occupational Safety and Health legislation will also be fully enforced.

He noted that when the current Government assumed office, a significant number of cases submitted to the Labour Relations Authority by both employees and employers were pending. Many of these cases, he said, were related to workers’ rights, adding that efforts are ongoing to resolve them in a fair manner.

Minister Ihusaan also said that while May Day had previously been observed as a day of protest against the Government, the current Administration is working to foster a more collaborative approach with employees.

He acknowledged that further work is needed to strengthen the protection of workers’ rights, adding that the Government will continue engagement with unions and employers to address outstanding issues.

The Minister further stated that efforts will focus on preparing young people for the workforce through the education system, while working with industries to ensure training is aligned with changing labour market demands.
