Vilimale MP Mohamed Ismail has called on the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) and the Elections Commission of Maldives to uphold their legal responsibilities in monitoring political activities and media conduct.

In a post shared regarding recent political rallies and protests organised by opposition parties, the MP raised concerns over media outlets affiliated with certain political groups carrying out what he described as unacceptable actions.

He alleged that some outlets were being used to spread false and misleading information about President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and that such content was being amplified during political gatherings through loudspeakers and live broadcasts.

According to the MP, several inappropriate statements and actions were being promoted through these platforms under the influence of political leaders.

He stressed that the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission and the Elections Commission, which are responsible for overseeing political activities and media standards, must stand up and fulfil the responsibilities assigned to them under the law.

Meanwhile, the Elections Commission has sent separate letters to the MDP and PNF, directing both parties to adhere to general social and moral standards during protests.

The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission has also instructed Channel 13 not to broadcast PNF protests live and is currently investigating a separate case involving Adhadhu News.
