President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have departed for Sri Lanka on a State Visit, following an invitation from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake.

The visit, scheduled from 3 to 6 May 2026, includes a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu is set to hold discussions with Sri Lankan leaders on areas such as education and vocational training, economic cooperation, governance, heritage, and collaboration in international forums. The two sides are also expected to witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding.

President Dr Muizzu is also set to hold discussions on resolving visa-related challenges faced by Maldivians travelling to Sri Lanka.

As part of the official programme, President Dr Muizzu will attend the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum and engage with members of the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.

The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the close relationship between the two countries. It follows the State Visit by President Disanayake to the Maldives in July 2025, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
