Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday, as part of the President’s ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, both sides reflected on more than six decades of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, highlighting longstanding ties built on mutual respect and close people-to-people connections. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and maintaining regular engagement in areas of shared interest.
Discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in key sectors, including environmental conservation, tourism and trade, with both sides exploring opportunities to further deepen bilateral ties.
President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are in Sri Lanka on a State Visit from 3 to 6 May 2026, undertaken at the invitation of Anura Kumara Disanayake. The visit includes a series of high-level engagements aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Several Memoranda of Understanding are also expected to be signed during the visit, reflecting efforts to advance collaboration across multiple sectors.
