The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the public to take precautionary measures to minimise potential damage from thunderstorms and lightning, as unstable weather conditions persist across the Maldives.

In a post on X, NDMA advised residents to remain vigilant and prepared, noting that thunderstorms are expected in several regions. The authority called on the public to take necessary precautions to reduce risks associated with lightning.
NDMA issued a set of safety guidelines, urging the public to avoid open areas and elevated locations such as rooftops and terraces, and to remain indoors as much as possible. Those outdoors are advised not to seek shelter near tall objects or under trees. The authority also recommended disconnecting electrical appliances and avoiding the use of electronic devices during storms, as well as staying clear of flooded areas, wet surfaces and metal objects.
Rainfall data over the past 24 hours shows the highest rainfall recorded in Seenu Hithadhoo at 46.1 millimetres. Faafu Bileydhoo recorded 33 millimetres, while Seenu Hulhumeedhoo recorded 32.4 millimetres.
Authorities have urged the public to continue monitoring weather updates and to exercise caution during the ongoing period of severe weather.
