Land reclamation in Milandhoo has been completed in 31 days as part of plans to develop an airport on the island.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the completion in a post on his official X account, outlining key details of the project.

Reclamation work began on 2 April 2026 and was completed on 4 May 2026. The project covered a reclaimed area of 21 hectares, with a total project footprint of 25.9 hectares. A volume of 1,134,534 cubic metres of material was used.

The planned airport has been designed to optimise land use on the island, integrating the airstrip with proposed inner and outer road networks as part of wider infrastructure development.
