Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has announced that work on the Media Village is expected to be completed by June this year.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing held on Thursday, Shareef said updates on the project had been delayed due to recent changes in ministerial responsibilities related to the media sector.
The Media Village initiative was proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following concerns and challenges raised by journalists and media organisations during discussions held after the presidential election.
According to the Government, the project aims to create a dedicated space equipped with the facilities required for media operations, including office spaces and studios for media institutions. The development is being carried out in a building originally constructed by the State Trading Organization for hotel operations.
In this year’s Presidential Address, President Dr Muizzu stated that the Media Village would be established by the middle of 2026.
