President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the newly established State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited (StatePharma) pharmacy at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will significantly improve access to medicines in the Maldives.
Speaking during the “Nation Chat” programme, the President said the company’s work is progressing rapidly and that long-term solutions are being implemented to address difficulties in accessing medicines.
He added that the public will begin to see positive results by the middle of this year.
The newly opened StatePharma IGMH Pharmacy was established in the hospital’s OPD area and is the first pharmacy launched under StatePharma.
The pharmacy is part of the company's ongoing efforts to provide quality medicines and improve pharmaceutical services for the public.
StatePharma stated that the pharmacy will operate 24 hours a day to ensure uninterrupted access to medicines and healthcare services. The company has also introduced arrangements to facilitate the import of medicines from abroad.
Other initiatives introduced by StatePharma include a 24-hour hotline launched on April 1, 2026, and online services through the StatePharma portal to make medicine requests more accessible for citizens.
The company also described the prescription submission service introduced through the IGMH pharmacy as an important step toward making it easier for people to obtain medicines.
