People's National Congress (PNC) candidate Ahmed Saeed has officially launched his campaign for the North Hithadhoo by-election in Addu City.

The campaign launch was attended by senior party officials, members of Saeed’s campaign team and supporters of the party.

Several senior Government and party figures addressed the gathering, including Speaker of Parliament and PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu , and PNC Deputy Leader and Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam. Member of Parliamnet for Vilimalé  Mohamed Ismail and Member of Parliament for Central Hithadhoo Ahmed Azaan Marzooq also spoke during the event.

Former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq is contesting the by-election on behalf of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The Elections Commission of Maldives has scheduled the North Hithadhoo by-election to be held on June 6.
