Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has conducted a medical camp for prisoners and detainees at Asseyri Prison in collaboration with Hulhumalé Hospital.

According to MCS, the camp was organised to provide prisoners and detainees with access to specialist medical services not normally available within prison facilities. The medical camp included services from specialists in internal medicine, orthopaedics and surgery.

MCS stated that consultations were provided to 41 prisoners requiring treatment and medical assessments from specialist doctors. The correctional service said the initiative aims to improve healthcare access for inmates and ensure necessary medical treatment is available to those in custody.

MCS also noted that similar medical camps are planned for prisons in the future.
