Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced plans to develop a 588-slot parking facility as part of ongoing redevelopment works on Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Speaking to State media, MTCC Project Manager Sharwas Abdulla said the parking facility will be developed in front of the Bank of Ceylon area under the fourth segment of the project. According to MTCC, the parking area will cover approximately 1,400 square feet.

The area is one of the busiest sections of the capital, housing Government offices, banks, markets, private businesses and ferries. Authorities stated that parking facilities were being incorporated into the redevelopment plans due to the high volume of daily traffic and public activity in the area.

MTCC also stated that landscaping and greening efforts are being prioritised alongside road development works. According to the company, trees removed during construction are being replanted in completed sections, including areas near Nasandhura and the FSM office building.

The company is currently working to complete redevelopment works on the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu by the end of June, with majority of the sheet piling works already completed as part of the road upgrade project.

This phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project covers five segments stretching from the Local Market area to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, covering a total length of 838 metres. The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 144 million.
