The Maldives High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, participated in a significant event hosted by the United Nations Multicountry Office in Malaysia to commemorate UN Day. This annual observance marks the adoption of the UN Charter on October 24, 1945, and serves as a reminder of the organization's ongoing mission to promote peace and cooperation among nations.

The event brought together prominent officials and diplomats, including Malaysia's Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yang Bahagia Dato Ahmad Roziyan Abdullah Ghani, and UN Resident Coordinator Karima L. Corey. Under the theme "Our Common Future," the gathering underscored the critical importance of international collaboration in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the ceremony, speakers called for persistent efforts to tackle urgent global challenges, highlighting the collective responsibility of nations to work towards these shared objectives.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also acknowledged the vital role of the UN in safeguarding the Maldives' independence and sovereignty, at the 59th anniversary of the nation’s membership in the United Nations. The event served as a poignant reminder of the Maldives’ commitment to the principles of the UN and the ongoing pursuit of sustainable development and global harmony.
