President accepts resignation of 10 Cabinet Ministers to facilitate governance reforms

Cabinet Ministers that resigned

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has accepted the resignations of 10 Cabinet Ministers, submitted on Tuesday, as part of efforts to enable meaningful changes in the Government in line with the aspirations of the people.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President’s Office stated that the resignations were tendered to provide the Government with an opportunity to implement reforms that reflect public sentiment.

The President expressed appreciation for the service rendered by the ministers during their tenure.

The ministers who submitted their resignations are:

  • Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Defence 
  • Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs 
  • Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, Minister of Health 
  • Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment 
  • Dr Aishath Shiham, Minister of Social and Family Development 
  • Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage 
  • Dr Maryam Mariya, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare 
  • Ibrahim Waheed, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts 
  • Adam Shareef Umar, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works 
  • Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development
