Indian experts have begun assisting the Maldives Police Service in investigating the Green Building fire incident which occured on December 12, 2024.

The structure, which houses the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, had sustained significant damage in the incident.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, in a statement to the media, confirmed the collaboration and reassured the public of a comprehensive inquiry. He emphasised that the investigation aims to determine the cause of the fire and ensure accountability.

As part of the ongoing efforts, police have been collecting statements from eyewitnesses and individuals present at the scene when the fire occurred. To complement this, authorities are analysing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the building to identify any potential leads.

The Police assures that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted in order to uncover the cause of the fire.
