Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has announced an exciting expansion into long-haul operations at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London.

This development marks a major milestone as the airline introduced its first wide-body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200, set to join its fleet. Supported by the Maldives government, the long-haul expansion project is aimed at boosting tourism by providing direct connections to distant international destinations.

The addition of the Airbus A330-200 will allow Maldivian to launch long-haul routes to major cities worldwide, making the Maldives more accessible to a broader audience of travellers. This aligns with the airline’s commitment to expanding its global presence, which will not only support the Maldives’ tourism sector but also strengthen business relations with regions around the world.

Scheduled for early 2025, Maldivian will introduce new direct routes to key cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu, improving access and connectivity for Chinese tourists, a growing demographic in Maldives tourism.
