A validation workshop for the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) Management Plan was held on Saturday in ADh. Maamigili, bringing together over 80 participants, including guides, vessel crew, captains, tour operators, and NGOs operating in the region.

The workshop, initiated by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, aimed to refine the management plan and ensure it addresses the needs of stakeholders while promoting the effective conservation of SAMPA's natural resources.

Key discussions during the session focused on the actions to be implemented in the three months following the publication of the plan. Participants also reviewed guidelines for interacting with whale sharks, a key species in the area, and explored the booking process through the protected and conserved areas website.

The South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) is globally recognised for its exceptional marine biodiversity. A key feature of the region is the year-round presence of whale sharks, which attract visitors from across the globe. In addition to whale sharks, the area is home to vibrant coral reefs and a diverse array of marine life, including turtles, manta rays, and various shark species.

The management plan was introduced to ensure the long-term sustainability of SAMPA's natural resources and habitats while fostering a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. By promoting sustainable practices, the plan seeks to provide both social and economic benefits for the region, ensuring that the South Ari Marine Protected Area remains a world-class destination for marine conservation and eco-tourism.
