Romania and Kazakhstan have entered the ranks of the top 10 countries sending the highest number of tourists to the Maldives, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism.

As of January 14, Kazakhstan had contributed 1,863 visitors to the Maldives, earning the country ninth place. Romania followed closely with 1,839 arrivals, taking the 10th spot. Their inclusion in the top 10 signals a notable shift in the Maldives’ tourism dynamics, as Spain and Switzerland were pushed out of the list of leading source markets.

This development coincides with a surge in overall tourist arrivals. The Maldives has welcomed 90,659 visitors so far this year—an 8 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Russia continues to dominate as the largest source market, with 12,920 arrivals recorded this year. Italy follows as the second-largest contributor, adding 10,662 visitors. However, China, once the leading market at the close of 2024, has seen its position drop to fourth place, with 6,667 arrivals registered to date.
