At COP29, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives called for a new climate finance goal in the trillions, emphasising the urgent need for increased global funding to address climate adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage. He highlighted the financial barriers facing Small Island Developing States and urged a revised framework to prioritise both current needs and future resilience. The President reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to sustainability and announced a 20-year vision for a climate-resilient nation by 2040.
