On the sidelines of COP29, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives met with the President of Nepal, the Right Honourable Ramchandra Paudel, to discuss mutual cooperation and climate priorities.
The meeting took place as part of the ongoing COP29 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) summit, where leaders from around the world have gathered to address pressing global environmental issues.
During the discussion, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the deep ties between the Maldives and Nepal as neighbouring countries within South Asia, expressing a desire to build upon this foundation. The two leaders focused on strengthening collaboration in the health sector, exploring ways to enhance healthcare resources and systems for both nations. This aligns with broader efforts in the Maldives to expand healthcare partnerships across the region.
The leaders also underscored their commitment to supporting each other on issues of shared interest and pledged to further enhance relations between their nations. Concluding their meeting, they turned their focus back to COP29’s primary objective: advancing global climate action. They discussed strategies to secure increased climate financing for developing countries, acknowledging the critical need for resources to support sustainable development and resilience.
This engagement reflects both countries' dedication to fostering regional collaboration and addressing global challenges through unity and shared responsibility.
