President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged significant development initiatives for Raa Kinolhas, assuring residents that numerous projects will be implemented this year.
Speaking to the island's community, the President emphasised his Administration's commitment to addressing long-standing concerns and enhancing the quality of life for Kinolhas residents.
During a meeting with locals, Ahmed Hussain, President of the Kinolhas Island Council, discussed various challenges facing the island. These included the lack of attention to sports development over the past 12 years, the absence of parks and family-friendly facilities, and limited space at the local school. The council president expressed hope that these issues would be resolved under the current Administration.
Responding to these concerns, President Dr Muizzu affirmed that Kinolhas would not be left behind in the Government’s development agenda. He spoke of the importance of inclusive development, stating that creating spaces for children and families is as vital as constructing large buildings.
The President confirmed that this year’s budget prioritises social issues, particularly those linked to community well-being. Plans include the construction of a park and the establishment of sports facilities, such as a futsal ground, a football field, and a handball court, to address the island's recreational needs.
President Dr Muizzu also spoke of the critical role of educational infrastructure in fostering future generations. He pledged improvements to Kinolhas School, including upgrades to classrooms, halls, and sanitation facilities, many of which are slated for completion this year.
Healthcare development was another focus, with the President announcing plans to expand the local health centre by constructing an extension building. He acknowledged current issues, including inadequate ambulance services, and vowed to enhance healthcare provisions for Kinolhas residents.
The President also outlined initiatives to promote local tourism, including connecting water and sewerage services to tourism-designated areas.
Additionally, he announced plans to establish a police service on the island, which he described as vital for ensuring safety and supporting tourism. He also highlighted the importance of solid waste management and improved banking services, such as the installation of ATMs, as part of the development agenda.
In a broader context, President Dr Muizzu spoke about the expansion of library services nationwide, linking this initiative to the cultivation of patriotism and intellectual growth. He noted that the public library network would be extended to promote knowledge and cultural development.
President Dr Muizzu concluded by assuring residents that most of Kinolhas's development projects would be implemented this year, with any remaining work to continue in the next.
