First Lady Sajida Mohamed emphasised broadcasting's crucial role in strengthening national unity at the "Vision of the Future" art competition awards ceremony at the National Art Gallery on Saturday.

Highlighting broadcasting's unique power to connect communities across Maldives' vast archipelago, she called for media content that reinforces social cohesion. She described broadcasting as a vital national trust that upholds cultural values, moral integrity and economic productivity in the island nation.

At the Maldives Broadcasting Commission event, the First Lady underscored the critical importance of responsible journalism and maintaining high language standards. While acknowledging social media's growing influence, she observed that platforms like Facebook, YouTube and TikTok cannot replicate broadcasting's fundamental role in bridging geographical divides and preserving national identity.

The First Lady urged parents to encourage children's engagement with targeted broadcasting programmes, emphasising their role in nurturing appreciation for the Dhivehi language and cultural heritage. She highlighted how educational initiatives like art competitions can inspire the next generation of broadcasters, crucial for the industry's future development.

The ceremony concluded with award presentations to winning students, celebrating young artistic talent and their vision for broadcasting's future in Maldives.
