The Ministry of Tourism has launched a targeted inspection initiative to tackle illegal guesthouses in the Maldives, focusing on popular tourist areas in collaboration with local police. In addition, the Ministry is working with the Health Ministry to improve tourist safety through first aid training and the establishment of resort clinics. A revised safety standards regulation is also being drafted, aimed at preventing incidents like the recent tragic death of a tourist in Rasdhoo at a guesthouse with an expired license.
