President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of COP29.

During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan’s efficient hosting of the summit and extended his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to the Maldivian delegation.

The President also highlighted the recent establishment of direct flights between the Maldives and Azerbaijan, emphasising the potential for increased tourism and investment. He expressed a keen interest in expanding Azerbaijani investments in the Maldives and outlined specific areas for economic collaboration.

President Aliyev echoed this interest, commending the Maldives' commitment to global climate advocacy and welcomed the prospect of enhanced economic ties. He expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to support joint ventures and investments that would benefit both nations.

The meeting concluded with both leaders affirming their commitment to advance economic cooperation and use COP29 as a platform to deepen ties between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.
