President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Maldivian shooter Mariyam Eashal Misbah for her outstanding achievement at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 in Thailand. The 15-year-old athlete secured a silver medal in the Air Pistol Women’s Junior event, marking a historic milestone for Maldivian shooting sports.

In a post on X, President Dr Muizzu lauded Eashal’s remarkable feat, highlighting that this is the first time a Maldivian shooter has reached the finals of an Asian-level competition and claimed a medal.

The tournament, held in Bangkok, saw participation from 23 Asian nations, with Eashal excelling against competitors from 21 countries to secure her spot in the final. Despite a strong performance, she was narrowly defeated by Chinese Taipei's Liao Ke-rong.

Eashal, a student at Majeedhiya School, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition. Prior to reaching the final, she set a new national record, further solidifying her status as a rising star in Maldivian sports. Her silver medal win is a groundbreaking achievement, marking the first time an athlete from the Maldives has won a medal in a major international Asian sporting event.

The victory is a significant boost for shooting sports in the Maldives and serves as an inspiration for young athletes aspiring to compete at international levels.
