Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has highlighted the importance of strengthening the decentralisation system and financially empowering local bodies to ensure efficient governance.

He emphasised that all institutions should regard the policies of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as a model for achieving these objectives.

In a post on X, the Minister stated that decentralisation enables governance to be more closely aligned with the wishes and needs of the people. He stated that this system allows for policies and initiatives to be implemented based on public opinion, fostering both development and education in local communities.

Minister Adam Shareef further stressed the need for political neutrality in service delivery, urging that differences in political ideologies should not hinder efforts to serve the public. He noted that a multi-party political system can only truly benefit the nation and its citizens if governance remains focused on service rather than political divides.

The Minister expressed hope that all institutions would adopt a unified approach, ensuring that the effective policies introduced by the President continue to strengthen decentralisation and empower local bodies financially. According to him, such an approach is essential in creating a governance framework that prioritises public welfare and sustainable development.
