STELCO's General Manager Ibrahim Nashid has announced that the company is working to implement real-time customer billing to address delays in electricity bill delivery.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, Nashid explained that meter reading and bill delivery have always involved time delays, noting this as a historical challenge in the process. He revealed that they have begun installing smart meters and completed initial testing, with the first shipment of smart meters expected to arrive in the Maldives by the end of February. Installation work will commence shortly after Ramadan.

Nashid explained that upon completion of the smart meter project, customers will be able to monitor their electricity consumption every fifteen minutes. This development will strengthen customer trust and confidence in the billing system.

For the Male' region, Nashid advised that customers experiencing power outages or electrical issues in any building or location should contact STELCO's number 104 to report problems, assuring that STELCO will provide necessary assistance.

Regarding the outer atolls, he indicated that residents should contact their local powerhouse. Nashid emphasised that STELCO electricians will attend to electrical issues at any time, even during the middle of the night.

STELCO engineer Ismail Nishar discussed the company's special awareness sessions about energy. These sessions provide detailed information about the company's electrical system and billing procedures.

Nishar mentioned that these awareness sessions are conducted throughout the country, including both Male' and the outer atolls, where information about energy conservation methods is also shared with residents.
