The People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader and Member of Parliament for Inguraidhoo Constituency, Ibrahim Falah, has stressed that media integrity is crucial for maintaining social harmony and cohesion within society.
Speaking about media's role in society, Falah reflected on the approaching Ramadan during a Maahefun organised by PNC last night, calling for unity and mindfulness in avoiding discord and chaos. He underscored that the responsible sharing of accurate information through social media and traditional media platforms remains vital for social cohesion.
Falah stressed the paramount importance of maintaining integrity in media discourse, emphasising that both journalists and social media contributors must uphold the highest standards of professional conduct. He warned that failing to do so could create significant rifts between citizens and Government, or among individuals, potentially threatening societal harmony.
Highlighting the broader implications, he cautioned that the circulation of misinformation could undermine community bonds, urging all parties to remain vigilant. While acknowledging that division serves no one's interests, Falah observed that inflammatory rhetoric poses a particular threat to national unity.
