President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to the capital on Tuesday evening after concluding his tour of South Nilandhe Atoll, where he met with local leaders and residents, reaffirming his commitment to accelerating development and addressing community concerns.
During visits to Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, Maaen’boodhoo, Ban’didhoo, Meedhoo, Rin’budhoo, and Hulhudheli, the President engaged with Island Councils, Women's Development Committees (WDCs), and institutional heads, pledging to deliver key projects that will improve infrastructure, housing, and essential services.
Among the major announcements, the President confirmed that land reclamation in Hulhudheli will commence in July as planned. In Ban’didhoo, modifications to the outer breakwater and land reclamation will begin next year, while Maaen’boodhoo will see upgrades in sports, healthcare, and education.
For Kudahuvadhoo, he pledged to develop its commercial harbour into an operational business port, fostering economic growth. Additionally, Dh. Uhdhoo will be designated a picnic island, offering a recreational space for atoll residents.
Addressing the country’s housing needs, the President announced new opportunities for citizens to build homes on private land, instructing Island Councils to revise housing projects accordingly.
In the Greater Malé area, he assured that the long-awaited 4,000-flat allocation list would be announced this week. Additionally, land recipients in yet-to-be-reclaimed Gulhifalhu will now receive plots in the existing reclaimed area, with registrations set for the next two to three months. The Government will also take over the Giraavaru Falhu reclamation project and reclaim 125 hectares in Uthuru Thila Falhu for housing development.
During his trip, the President inaugurated ATM services on multiple islands, making South Nilandhe Atoll, the first atoll in the country that is not connected via bridges, to have banking services across all its inhabited islands.
In healthcare, he announced that all medicines on the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) Essential Medicine List will be stocked in STO pharmacies from March 15, with the Approved Medicine List becoming available from April 15.
President Dr Muizzu assured citizens that all stalled projects will resume between February and March, as highlighted in his Presidential Address. After a pause during Ramadan, he will continue nationwide visits to engage with communities and oversee development efforts, reaffirming his pledge to bring meaningful progress to the Maldives.
