Hulhumalé witnessed a historic milestone on March 5, as President Dr Mohamed Muizzu broke ground for Masjid Ummul Mu’minīn Aisha Radhiallahu Anha.

More than just a place of worship, this new mosque is poised to transform religious and academic engagement in the reclaimed suburb, creating a hub for both spiritual devotion and intellectual exploration.

The ambitious project, privately funded by Sheikh Ismail Mohamed and managed by Medina Investment, will replace an aging makeshift tin-structured mosque that has long served the local community.

Strategically located near Redwave in Hulhumalé Phase 1, the two-storey mosque will have the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 worshippers. In line with sustainability efforts, it will be powered by solar energy.

What truly sets this mosque apart is its incorporated research library—the first of its kind in the Maldives. Designed to be more than just a place of worship, this facility will offer scholars, students, and worshippers access to an extensive collection of religious texts and academic resources, fostering a deeper pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth. Additionally, dedicated prayer areas and exclusive amenities for women will ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Named in honour of Aisha (Radhiallahu Anha), the esteemed wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the mosque is slated for completion by Ramadan 2026. Once opened, it will stand as a beacon of faith and knowledge bringing to life the benefactor’s vision of a mosque that extends beyond worship to nurture education and enlightenment.
