President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has marked Commonwealth Day with a message emphasising the strength of unity and the importance of collaboration among Commonwealth nations.
In his statement, President Dr Muizzu stated that unity is not merely an abstract concept but a fundamental force that drives cooperation and empowers communities to address shared challenges. He reflected on this year’s theme, “Together We Thrive”, highlighting its particular relevance in a world increasingly affected by conflict and inequality.
Emphasising the importance of collective action, he called on Commonwealth nations to stand together, not only to withstand adversity but to progress and prosper as a unified community.
Reaffirming the Maldives’ deep appreciation for the Commonwealth’s continued advocacy, he recognised the organisation’s critical role in championing the interests of small states.
He acknowledged its efforts in advancing climate resilience, facilitating access to finance, promoting women's empowerment, and fostering youth development.
He also reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering commitment to the core principles enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter, including democracy, human rights, good governance, and sustainable development.
Reflecting on the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Samoa last year, President Dr Muizzu described it as a testament to the Commonwealth’s dedication to fostering unity and cooperation among its members.
He stressed the need for continued efforts to translate the outcomes of CHOGM into tangible actions, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening its partnerships within the Commonwealth to ensure a more prosperous and sustainable future for all its citizens.
In addition to his formal message, President Dr Muizzu shared a post on his official X account earlier today, commemorating Commonwealth Day and further reinforcing his commitment to the values and vision of the Commonwealth.
