The biometric data of over 100,000 foreigners have been collected as part of Operation Kurangi, a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing the issue of undocumented migrant workers in the Maldives.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, the data collection effort, which has been ongoing for the past 10 months, has registered more than 65,000 foreign nationals in the Greater Malé area alone. The initiative is expected to provide a long-term solution to the problem of illegal immigration and improve the regulation of foreign workers in the country.
The Ministry have confirmed that current restrictions on bringing in foreign workers will be reviewed and adjusted once Operation Kurangi is completed.
Additionally, the Ministry has urged all remaining undocumented foreign workers to submit their information before April 30, 2025.
