The national carrier Maldivian Airlines has launched direct flights between Hanimaadhoo International Airport and Bangalore.

The airline announced that it will operate two weekly flights on the route, with departures scheduled for Sundays and Thursdays. The new service is expected to benefit residents of the northern atolls by offering direct access to India without the need to transit through Malé, thereby reducing travel time and improving convenience.

Bangalore, one of India’s largest cities, is a popular destination for Maldivians travelling for medical treatment, education, business, and leisure. According to Maldivian Airlines, the new route will also provide Indian tourists with the opportunity to explore the unique natural beauty and cultural heritage of the northern Maldives.

The airline stated that the launch of the new service is part of its ongoing efforts to improve accessibility, expand its network, and operate in a more sustainable manner. Maldivian also noted that it will continue to assess demand and explore the introduction of additional routes in the future.

Earlier this year, Maldivian introduced its first wide-body aircraft, enabling the launch of direct flights to major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The airline plans to add a second wide-body aircraft, which will facilitate the start of direct services to Europe.
